- I.e., Netware NT.... (The little glyphs composed of a colon, a hyphen,
- and a right-parenthesis were meant to indicate that my referring to SVR4
- as "Netware NT" was meant as a joke....)

- Yes, and you've said, for example:
-

-
- which, among other things, fails to note that NCR *also* was moving to,
- or may have *already* moved to, *86-based computers, *and* fails to note
- that the computer line that disappeared in the merger was mainly AT&T's
- not NCR's...
-
- ...i.e., you've shown no evidence here that AT&T/NCR is *NOT* an case
- where the acquired company wasn't destroyed, with their products
- "replaced, compatibility be damned".
-
- I predict that Novell's intention is also not to nuke a competitor; in
- fact, I'll bet you $1000 that, whilst the cuddly little hacker's UNIX,
- with "grep" as the shining peak of its technology, may or may not remain
- (although I'll also bet that "Netware NT" will still have "grep" in it),
- Novell will *not* nuke the UNIX API, and the resulting system will still
- be able to run applications out there in the market for UNIX - probably
- including GCC and company, for those who prefer to get their
- applications from "comp.sources.unix" - and that they will *not* try to
- kill UNIX in favor of their existing NetWare server OS.
-
- If that's not a big enough bet for you, I may be willing to crank it up
- higher....
