  17. If the modem is not properly configured to drop Carrier Detect when the
  18. phone line is disconnected, this could be possible.
  19. Log in to the suspect system, then disconnect the phone line to the modem.
  20. Dial back into the system.  If it is properly configured, you will get a new
  21. login prompt.  If it is not properly configured, you will be returned to the
  22. previous login session, still running.
