- Personally I think the *only* important issue involved is what Novel would
- do about the BSDI suit. Control of unix is slowly but inexorably slipping
- out of the hands of the ``holder of the proprietary source code''.

- Novel may feel that by agressivly pushing this suit they can nip this trend
- in the bud, but the true result will simply be to slow it down.

- Or they may feel that they can gain goodwill by settling it. This will allow
- the above trend to continue at a faster rate, eventually leading to reduced
- margins for Novel.

- Either way, should this transaction proceed, Novel will have control over
- whether the next several years are pleasant and productive or unpleasant and
- contentious for many of us who are pursuing the freed unix path...
