- I just recently installed 386BSD v0.1 in my 486 system. After a bit of
- confusion about how to use the 57 bin01 segments, I got it to the point
- where it appears to boot rather cleanly. However, I have a few problems
- that I do not seem to be able to resolve.
-
- 1) I can't seem to figure out how to add new users. All of my previous
- experince is with Sun/OS versions 4.0.3 and 4.1.1, both of which keep
- the encrypted passwords in the /etc/passwd file. When I try to add a
- new user to 386BSDs /etc/passwd file, leaving the password field empty,
- the login program *still* asks for a password when I login. HELP!
-
- 2) I've got a 3COM 3C503 ethernet board installed, and 386BSD is seeing
- it. Now I want to be able to make 386BSD talk to the other machines on
- our network (a Solbourne, 3 SUNs, a RS/6000 and a Silicon Graphics
- IRIS). I've gotten it configured to the point that I can do "loopback"
- testing - 386BSD will let me log in to my own box via FTP and TELNET,
- and I can ping my own box, but none of the other systems (which all work
- just fine with each other) will respond. Once again, HELP!
-
- 3) I would like to know if there exists a driver for 386BSD to worth
- with the 3COM 3C505 ethernet board. I currently have both the 3C503 and
- 3C505 installed in my machine because I need the 3C505 for some of my
- DOS based network applications (and they don't have drivers for the
- 3C503)!

- Please reply via e-mail to cranem@edsi.plexus.com. thank you.
