  14. So I made an install and a fixit disk from cgd's binary images months
  15. ago.  Just the past week I finally managed to get the bin dist loaded
  16. onto floppy, so I thought, "now is the time to install."
  17.  
  18. I booted the install floppy.  I typed 'install'.  Everything appeared
  19. to work fine.  I hit return to reboot off of the hard disk.  Endless
  20. reboot cycle.  It took me a few dozen cycles to copy it down, but 
  21. here is what appeared on the screen:

  29. The operating system is saving a copy of RAM to device 1, offset 0
  30. (hit any key to abort) amount left to save [MB] -- area improper,
  31. system rebooting.

  33. The syntax may be a bit off, but the preceding is what my machine
  34. complained of.  I seem to recall some mention of an endless reboot
  35. cycle before, but it didn't seem to apply to my machine.

  37. Here are the specifics:
  38. no-name motherboard, AMI bios, 386-25, 8 Meg RAM, no co-processor,
  39. MFM controller and two hard disks, one (3.5) floppy, 4-port serial
  40. card (com 1), multi i/o card (com 2), CGA adapter (HP, ancient, 2
  41. board solution), wangtek QIC-36 controller, 1/4" tape drive, Covox
  42. Speach board.  I think that's it.  I haven't had the opportunity
  43. yet to pull all but the most essential components and try again.
  44. Is this something that is likely to prove useful?

  46. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?  What should I do next?
  47. Pull half of the RAM?  Disconnect the second hard drive?  Get a new
  48. install image?  Install by hand?
