  12. My (former) A/UX boot disk has recently come up with a new
  13. way of misbehaving.  It has been making its distinctive
  14. "spin-up" sound repeatedly during disk-intensive processes;
  15. the sound is often accompanied by "Recovered Error" messages 
  16. in the Console window.

  18. I ran a SCSI verify with APS PowerTools and found some bad
  19. blocks, so I reformatted with A/UX HD SC Setup and restored
  20. the file system with dd from a mirror disk.  I then ran
  21. badblk on the problem drive;  no bad blocks were found, 
  22. but I got another few "Recovered Error" messages.
  23.  
  24. Any explanation (especially of "recovered errors" or 
  25. repeated spin-ups) would be appreciated.
