- My (former) A/UX boot disk has recently come up with a new
- way of misbehaving. It has been making its distinctive
- "spin-up" sound repeatedly during disk-intensive processes;
- the sound is often accompanied by "Recovered Error" messages
- in the Console window.
-
- I ran a SCSI verify with APS PowerTools and found some bad
- blocks, so I reformatted with A/UX HD SC Setup and restored
- the file system with dd from a mirror disk. I then ran
- badblk on the problem drive; no bad blocks were found,
- but I got another few "Recovered Error" messages.
-
- Any explanation (especially of "recovered errors" or
- repeated spin-ups) would be appreciated.
