- Hello, fellow AIXers!
- Well, I once again have a small problem.
- I'm running AIX 3.2.2, on an rs6k.
- when mail comes in from the outside world, a file gets created in /tmp
- (ma* - where the * at least appears to be arbitrary).
- also, the person who sent the message gets a bounce-back as follows:
-
- --- The transcript of the session follows ---
- bellmail: cannot append to /usr/spool/mail/root
- bellmail: cannot create //dead.letter
- bellmail: error closing file: A file descriptor does not refer to an open file.
- 554 <root@bas1.bas.ncsu.edu>... Unknown mailer error 3
-
- Any ideas?
-
- Any help would be greatly appreciated!
-
- Also:
- as bellmail says: all the files in /var/spool/mail have 660 for perms.
- they have the correct owners as well.
- I THINK the permissions are right on /var and /var/spool.
- /var/spool/mail has 777.
- Is any of this wrong?
- What else could be the problem?
-
- I can manually append to /usr/spool/mail/root
- by cat >> /usr/spool/mail/root.
- could it be a setuid problem?
- Thanks,
- James
