- I had a similar problem some years ago. It turned out to be the
- fault of the text editor I was using. The code for the 'Enter' key
- was 3, and using Enter to move to the current location caused a character
- with code 3 to be placed there. That character was invisible in the
- text editor, but is \Gamma in the cmr fonts. So I would get a mysterious
- \Gamma in my TeX output from time to time.
