- I'm new to FrameMaker, so I apologize if this is a silly question.
-
- I've got several footnotes on one page of my document. They're numbered
- 1, 2, and 3, and everything is fine. On another page, though, I use the word
- "MS-DOS." I want to put a superscripted "R in a circle" (registered
- trademark) after the MS-DOS and have what looks like a footnote at the
- bottom of the page. But instead of a number, I'd like to see another
- superscripted "R in a circle" and then some text. This is where I run
- into trouble.
-
- If I change the numbering style in the footnote properties window to a
- custom style using the trademark symbol, it affects *all* my footnotes
- (as I'd expect). It was suggested that I create a new paragraph tag
- called "Trademark" that would be just like my "Footnote" tag. I did this
- and FrameMaker allowed me to create a footnote after the MS-DOS and tag
- the text at the bottom of the page with "Trademark." Then I went back to
- the footnote properties window, set the Paragraph Format name to "Trademark,"
- and changed the custom numbering style to the trademark symbol.
- Unfortunately, this affected *all* my footnotes as well.
-
- I found a line in a manual that said that footnote property changes affect
- all footnotes. OK, I've discovered that fact. But why do I get to change
- the "Paragraph Format" entry in the Footnote Properties window? What
- difference does it make what the tag name is if the changes affect all
- footnotes?
-
- In addition to wanting to understand this, I'd like to hear from anyone who
- has already found a solution to this problem. Please send me email directly
- because I don't get to read this group regularly.
