- You didn't by any chance copy the first Figure paragraph *after* you
- made a cross-reference to it, did you? If so (feel the guilt :>), all
- copies of the paragraph will contain the identical xref source marker -
- ie, you would have a whole lot of paragraphs with xref marker id 34584
- or whatever. This would definitely drive your update process crazy.
-
- Yes, of course I did. That was precisely my mistake. MY mistake? Hmmmph!
- Nahhhh ... it's an oversight, as proven by Frame Technology's reply below.

- Hello,
-
- Our local support people (since we run a site license) are
- understandably unable to resolve this one. Could you help?
- I can always send over the file (it's small) after uuencoding
- the Frame internal format and send it over via email.
-
- I really appreciate any immediate help you can offer me.
-
- Thank you.

- I have cross references to a lot of paragraphs formatted with the
- Figure format. I created most of the Figure paragraphs by copying the
- first one and then changing the text. The auto-number works fine, and
- the cross reference window does show all the different paragraphs with
- the Figure format. But when I choose "Update" in the cross reference
- window, most cross references in my text to these Figure formatted
- paragraphs reverted to the first one on the list, so they all said
- Figure 1. I went through my whole document to fix this, but once again
- after I did an Update the same ones reverted back to referencing the
- first Figure paragraph again.
-
- Yuck.
-
- I believe the above qualifies as a bug.

- More than a bug it is a design issue - customers copying markers wasn't
- "figured into" the cross-reference scheme. We have had numerous
- customers call on this and it has been logged often - I will log it
- again with our engineers. The *only* way of fixing this is to *delete*
- the old marker and re-insert a brand new marker - you cannot simply
- edit the old marker.
-
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Problem: When I double click on a cross reference to bring up the
- dialog box, the correct Reference Source is not selected. FM keeps
- selecting another source paragraph tag. If I select the correct tag,
- and replace it, the correct source appears in my document. But
- everytime I double click on that cross reference to bring up the dialog
- box again, the same incorrect reference source is selected. And
- everytime I click update, the crossreference updates to the incorrect
- Reference Source.
-
- ***This is because there are double cross references in the document***
-
- Here is how to create double xrefs:
-
- If you have doc with a cross reference on page 1 that points to a paragraph
- on page two, FM puts a marker on page 2 in the paragraph. If you copy
- that paragraph with the marker, and paste it on page 3, you will have a
- double cross reference. A way to check that this is a double cross reference
- is to open the "Markers" dialog box, and highlight the marker in the
- paragraph that was pasted on page 3. In the "Markers" box you will see
- a five digit number, like 41179, and the paragraph tag name. If you then
- go to page two and highlight the paragraph with the original xref marker,
- you'll see that it has the same identical number.
-
- In order to clean this up, you must delete the marker in the paragraph
- on page three, and the re-insert it again. It will then have a new five
- digit number.
