- End of the year miscellaneous queries :)
-
- (1) I've got a Z386/25 with one of the older DTC 10MHz ESDI controllers in
- it running a NEC 150MB ESDI drive. I always thought it was a bit slow. I
- just added a SCSI drive and I *really* saw a difference so I used the
- benchmark programs in PCTools to compare the two. On seeks and positioning,
- the two drives are very similar, but the SCSI has a Data Transfer Rate of
- around 900K/s, while the ESDI comes in at 53K/s! Is this controller slow
- or is something maladjusted in the system? This model controller doesn't
- have DIP switches, and the only jumper blocks I can identify (3 all told)
- appear to be for testing purposes. (Jeff Easton told me what they did
- once, but I don't have my notes here. Suffice to say none of them
- enabled 'tortoise' mode, as I recall...). Maybe SMARTdrive was running at
- the time. Would this cause such a discrepancy?
-
- (2) What is WITH all these ZDS monitors, anyway? I mean, can somebody please
- post some specs on this bewildering array of new model numbers so we can
- figure out what's going on? (Have I been watching too much Seinfeld?) What
- on earth is a ZDS-284m? Is it like anything we've seen before from ZDS?
- How about the ZDS-394m? Point 39 dot pitch, are we supposed to take this
- seriously, or has ZDS found a way to make .39 look clean and clear? A relative
- was interested in buying a ZDS 386SX/25 bundle available at a local discount
- shop (BEST), but they had none on display, and I couldn't recommend a bundle
- with a .39 monitor I knew nothing else about. Can someone from ZDS please
- post relevant specs about all the current monitors, especially tidbits like
- what they are intended to replace (if anything), and who makes them? ;)
-
- Have a very Happy New Year. Go Huskies, Beat the Wolverines!!!!!!!!!!!!!
