- I can buy System V release 4.2 for the 386. On this, I can run:
-
- SVR4.0 80386 binaries
- SVR3.2 80386 binaries
- SCO SV 80386 binaries
- SVR3.0 80386 binaries
- SVR2 80386 binaries
- SVR2 80286 binaries
- Xenix V2 80386 binaries (SVR0 based)
- Xenix V2 80286 binaries (SVR0 based)
- Xenix V3 80286 binaries (SIII based)
- Xenix V3 8086 binaries (SIII based)
-
- SVR3.2 and SCO can run all of the binaries below them on the list.
- Xenix V2 for the 80386 can run all the binaries below it on the list.
-
- Intel's versions of these can also run Intel's DOS tools without a DOS
- emulator.
-
- SVR4 is SVR4 compliant.
-
- Now, the 80286 code runs in an emulation mode. The Xenix code runs under
- a Xenix emulator. The DOS tools run in an emulator that emulates the runtime.
-
- I'm amazed that Sun hasn't written a 680x0 emulator for running Sun3 binaries,
- and a BSD emulator for the statically linked stuff. I suspect that a third
- party who'd do this would sell quite a few copies. Look at it as opportunity.
