- My memory is somewhat different. I believe that the Sun 4/1X0 line came
- out about the same time as the 3/80. There's no question the 4/110 was
- faster than the 3/80, but it cost a lot more too.
-
- If you asked Sun about what was coming next, they'd tell you that there
- were all kinds of interesting sparcboxes on the way and they were thinking
- about what to do with the 680X0 line.
-
- Let me state that more plainly:
-
- Sun said clearly and repeatedly that they had specific plans for the
- sparc line (and would outline them in detail in non-disclosure), but
- had no specific plans for the Motorola line (and would tell you that in
- detail in non-disclosure). If you asked them explicitly about faster
- '030 machines or future '040 machines, they'd say they were thinking
- about it. No plans, just thinking about it. As a Sun OEM hearing
- this, it wasn't hard to figure out what eggs to put your baskets in.
