  21. It's posts like these that make me wonder how we have gotten as far as
  22. we have.  Why not take this ludicrus concept to extreme?  Why not
  23. write into your purchase orders for new automobiles that the purchase
  24. is conditioned on the equipment being able to run on Leaded gasoline
  25. -- or require that television manufacturers provide you with two
  26. rotary knobs at the frunt of every set so that you can tune into your
  27. favorite VHF stations and, with the selection of U on the top knob,
  28. also have the added enjoyment of the UHF stations selected from the
  29. bottom knob.  All this advancement and change has gotten out of hand.
  30. What are we using UNIX for anyway?  Lest we forget that Multics is the
  31. One True Operating System and COBOL is the Programming Language of
  32. Choice.  Throw out your EMACS and vi editors and go back to the method
  33. of user input bequeathed to us by God Almighty, the Punched Card.

  37. One year from today we shall live in an entirely different computing
  38. environment.  UNIX will be threatened with the market arrival of
  39. Microsloth NT -- The Megalomaniac Antichrist Bill ("Ding, dong, UNIX
  40. is Dead!") Gates is going to screw our Beloved Operating System into
  41. the ground with an Inferior and Bogus product designed to steal OS
  42. sales away from UNIX in the most obvious and influential computing
  43. markets.  In order to Survive ... indeed our Only Chance of resisting
  44. assimilation is to *UNITE* under USL.
  45.  
  46. The very FUTURE of academic, scientific, and business computing is at
  47. stake here, and *you* would take steps to jeopardize a Twenty Year
  48. investment simply because a few canned apps have to be recompiled to
  49. work with new Sun platforms?
