- Sun is probably "abandoning" SunOS 4.x to live up to the well-publicized
- committment they and AT&T made several years ago to actually *use* the
- UNIX OS they would jointly develop (ie, SVR4) on the machines they sold.

- Contrast this with the complete lack of committment on their
- competitor's parts in developing OSF/1 shortly thereafter. Neither IBM
- nor DEC, nor any of the other OSF players ever actually committed to
- *using* OSF/1 on their machines. Sun and AT&T's committment ensured
- they would provide engineering support to the product development.
- DEC and IBM ensured they would get advertising support.
