- Does Solaris 2.1 have some problem with >1GB disks???
-
- I am trying to load Solaris 2.1 from the distribution CDROM
- to a Toshiba MK-538FB, 1.2GB (formatted) disk on a new LX.
-
- ************************************************************
- *** This same disk formats and checks out fine on an IPC ***
- *** running 4.1.2 at a capacity of 1170MB !!! ***
- ************************************************************
-
- The symptoms are as follows :
-
- When using the Solaris 2.1 format, it is not possible to
- write the paritition table and label in without getting error
- messages, unless the capacity is <=1GB.
-
- After defining a disk type with >1GB, loading 2.1 from the
- CDROM works Ok (and takes 1:10 hours), but then Solaris won't
- boot right from the disk, and keeps trapping at boot, saying
- that the label is corrupt, and that the label claims the disk
- has xxxx (xxxx>2101018) blocks while the drive says it has
- only 2101018 blocks.
-
- If I format the drive as <=1GB and install Solaris 2.1, it
- also doesn't work at boot, but this time it traps after
- scsi phase errors, not saying anything about block numbers.
-
- Any ideas? Is it the 1GB limit? Is it this specific drive model?
- Could it be some SCSI thingy having to do with a SCSI difference
- between the LX and the IPC?
-
- AdvThanks,
-
