- Hello:
-
- I was just wondering if someone out there knew how
- to boot a machine over the network. I've tried and tried
- but no such luck. Here's what happened:
-
- I tried to make harpo a boot server for the client groucho. I'm
- trying to update operating system via the network rather than
- lugging around the silly CDROM drive all the time.
-
- I ran "add_client" on harpo and added groucho to it's list
- to make it a boot server. The program is not very robust and
- I had to delete and add the client a few times to get it to
- go through all the motions.
-
- The program "add_client" puts the proper files (supposedly) into
- /export and the proper entry (supposedly) in /etc/bootparams, but
- rpc.bootparamd will not run properly. When run in debug mode, I
- get the error:
-
- harpo# rpc.bootparamd -d
- In debug mode
- bp_getclntent failed.
- bp_getclntent failed.
-
- and it just hangs. I cannot figure out why it won't run. As a result,
- groucho can get it's IP address, but hangs after that and says:
-
- No bootparam server responding; still trying
-
- Note: I am running NIS with (I hope) valid host and ethers entries
- in the database. Harpo is running SunOS 4.1.3 and groucho is hanging
- right now with 4.1.1 Rev B.
-
- If anyone has any ideas, please email. Thanks in advance.
