- I've run into the following problem a few times and wanted
- to get opinions on what may be the best way to resolve it.
-
- I backing up non-sun machines, via an IPX, by mounting the
- filesystem(s) and using tar to write the data to a 5gb 8mm exabyte. I
- use mount with the following options:
-
- -o intr,ro,retry=2,timeo=10
-
- My problem is if the machine I'm backing up goes away for some
- reason, the backup hangs until I reboot the Sun. Even if the other machine
- comes back, the sun and backups are still hung. What I'd like to have happen
- is to have the backups time out on that machine/filesystem and continue on.
-
- Now, my questions are:
-
- 1) Is this happening because of the mount options I'm using?
-
- 2) Is the backup hanging because of tar?
-
- 3) Should I be using other mount options like timeo?
-
- Please send responses to ptanner@eng.stratus.com. I'll forward any
- replies I get to whomever may be interested.
-
- Thanks,
-
