  12. SSPS - Smarter Serial Port Software

  14.     Myself and the Co-Admin of exucom.com have written some
  15. applications for the SGI's that do the following:
  16.  
  17.     o Alter number of rings your modems answer on according to day
  18.       of week and time of day.  It also removes the bogus lock
  19.       files that might still be in /usr/spool/locks for the serial
  20.       ports.
  21.  
  22.     o Command line Audio Volume control that doesn't effect
  23.       sampling rates like sfplay or playaiff do with empty aiff
  24.       files.
  25.  
  26.     o Replacements for UUCP that will wait for other serial port
  27.       traffic to stop and then grab the serial port for UUCP to
  28.       use.  (Very useful if you have serial ports that are in
  29.       constant use for incoming/outgoing calls.)

  32.     All of the above functions with or without the flex-fax
  33. software available via anonymous ftp to sgi.com.

  35.     As far as price, E-Mail an offer.  We would consider $25.00 to
  36. be about right...  We're not sure if we should go with the shareware
  37. concept or what.  In short, we're negotiable.

  39.     In my opinion I think that SGI should make us an offer for the
  40. rights and bundle it with the OS.  It solves an awful lot of problems
  41. as far as system administration.  They make the system smart enough to
  42. babysit itself as far as serial IO, UUCP, and SLIP goes.

  44.     These programs have been tested for over a year on an SGI
  45. R3000 Indigo and have been running solidly for 6 months.  It's well
  46. out of Beta Test stage.

  48.     These scripts are not provided by the company I work for, or
  49. any other commercial organization.  (This is to clarify the point for
  50. the discussion in news.admin about commercial advertisements on USENET.)
