  10.  I saw something a little while back about network attached modems that
  11. support TCP/IP and IPX/SPX.  Has anyone considered the security
  12. implications of such devices?  What are the control mechanisms to
  13. prevent/detect access attempts from unauthorized users?  I have been
  14. thrust into the security aspects of our 26 location state-wide
  15. network with access to the federal government, other state agencies as
  16. well as the general public. General public access is just being
  17. considered and would definitely be on a limited basis until secure
  18. systems are developed.  Access is needed to Unix, MVS, and more
  19. and more of our Netware housed resources.  My preference would be a
  20. single communications access technique for obvious reasons.  With that
  21. in mind is there a way to access the Novell servers using SLIP?  I
  22. have seen rumblings to this effect in regard to Lan Workplace for DOS. 
  23. The version I have (4.01) does not support this.  Does anyone have any
  24. suggestions?   Please do not suggest Novell Access Server, we have 5
  25. or 6 of them scattered throughout the state of Minnesota and they are
  26. mostly unreliable when performing IPX, IP, and 3270 emulation tasks in
  27. various sessions.
