- Hi,
-
- "Locking" the desktop (per se) would be a bad idea. This database must be used
- by all Macintosh clients to find out how to draw the desktop on the screen. So,
- do not lock the files, or take away everyone's rights to that directory (that
- wouldn't do much anyway). If you are looking to control the icon views in a
- given folder, just change the ownership of a folder to SUPERVISOR. Then
- as SUPERVISOR arrange the icons in the folder as needed. All other non-SUPERVIS
- OR users will see that same layout when they open the folder. These non-SUPER-
- VISOR users will be able to re-arrange things during their current session, but
- when they close the volume or logout, and re-open the folder, the icons will be
- arraned in the original fashion (that SUPERVISOR had used). This really works!
-
- It is rather labour intensive to "clean-up" ALL of the folders on your
- volumes. Is this so important? Wouldn't it be better just to view by name?
- With System 7, one can view by name and use the control panels/views to adjust
- the size of the icons and fonts. So, if you have bad eyes (like mine) just
- view by name and use the largest possible fonts and icons. It really works!
- Besides, it is really for each individual user to decide on how they would like
- to see icons on their Macintosh.
-
- Think Peace...
