- Ever need just one more free entry on your NeXTSTEP dock.
- Well, here's one way to do it. I have only done this under
- 3.0, so I am not sure if it will work on older versions.
-
- The trick is to move the Recycler icon off the dock. Here's
- how:
-
- 1. Open a terminal session and type "dread -n DockPaths" at
- the command line.
-
- This will return the current entries on your dock. Mine
- looks like this:
-
- Workspace DockPaths "Workspace Manager;/NextApps/Preferences.app;
- /NextApps/Mail.app;/NextApps/Librarian.app;/NextApps/Edit.app; ;
- /NextDeveloper/Apps/ProjectBuilder.app;
- /NextDeveloper/Apps/InterfaceBuilder.app;
- /NextApps/Terminal.app; ; ; ;Recycler"
-
- (NOTE: the above will appear as one line, I added newlines
- so the various news reader don't complain.)
-
- 2. Write out a new DockPaths entry without the Recycler
- entry.
-
- dwrite Workspace DockPaths "Workspace Manager;/NextApps/Preferences.app;
- /NextApps/Mail.app;/NextApps/Librarian.app;/NextApps/Edit.app; ;
- /NextDeveloper/Apps/ProjectBuilder.app;
- /NextDeveloper/Apps/InterfaceBuilder.app;
- /NextApps/Terminal.app; ; ; ; "
-
- (NOTE: the above will appear as one line, I added newlines
- so the various news reader don't complain.)
-
- 3. Logout and login again. You should have a blank entry
- at the bottom of you dock and the Recycler icon will show
- up at the bottom rightmost corner just like any normal
- application icon.
-
- 4. I did the same thing with the Workspace Manager entry
- and "it just worked". I got a free entry at the top of my dock.
- But I didn't get a File Viewer and couldn't log out since I
- couldn't get to the Workspace menu. Therefore I would NOT
- recommend this.
-
- 5. Note that this is not supported by me, FannieMae or NeXT.
- If you screw things up, it's all your fault...
