- The QuickTime developer package from the
- Apple Programmers Developer Association
- has all the documentation and header files.
- Lots of sample code and piles of movies and stills.
-
- The QuickTime for Windows SDK also includes
- that material.

- The Image Compression Manager uses modular codecs.
- The codecs are implemented as Component Manager
- components and are easy to work with. The components
- can be placed in the QuickTime INIT, the system folder
- or in the movie file.
-
- The QuickTime for Windows solution is similar but uses
- DLLs.

- My exposure to MPEG was not as positive as yours.
- Perhaps MPEG2 will be more interesting.
- Compact Video is way cool for motion video.
- JPEG is way cool for stills.
- There are other codecs with trade-offs
- in quality/size/speed/cost/hardware assist etc....

- The JPEG codec is DCT based.
- The other codecs use other methods.
