- I would like to get a copy of all documentation pertaining to AIFF-C,
- the "audio interchange file format with compression." APDA to here
- is *extremely* slow, so if someone could actually send me directly the
- files I would be incredibly grateful.
-
- With or without the files, I hope that you (yes you) can help me with the
- following information:
-
- 1. Do the APDA documents provide information about the actual compression
- algorithms used, or are do they give information only about file formats?
-
- 2. Is some single algorithm or set of algorithms part of the AIFF-C standard,
- or is AIFF-C only a way for compatible compressors and decompressor to
- exchange files? Presumably in the second case, there is a tag in the header
- which identifies uniquely the algorithm. Is a developer meant to
- "register" his tag with APPLE? Can I get a list of available algorithms
- that are used with AIFF-C?
-
- 3. If the actual compression is part of the standard, or if Apple uses
- some well defined set of algorithms, are these algorithms described
- in the APDA documents? Are they described anywhere else? Are they,
- in fact, open standards or are they some secret proprietary algorithms?
-
- I am anxious to understand whether AIFF-C represents a particular
- compression technology, or only a file transfer format. If you can help me,
- I really appreciate it.
-
- If there is a better place to send this note, *please* let me know about it.
-
- Replies to me or to this forum please.
- Thanks very much,
- Scott Petrack (PETRACK@haifasc3.vnet.ibm.com)
