- Has anyone successfully obtained the GCC compiler from Apple's
- FTP system?
-
- I have tried twice to obtain the GCC compiler from the
- /pub/gnu.mpw directory on ftp.apple.com (the "minimum" version,
- binaries and scripts only, name something like
- gcc_1.37.min.sit.hqx.Z). It appears to FTP properly to a host
- system (I remembered to set BINARY transfer), then I move it to
- another VAX using Kermit with no errors. But when I run LZDCMP
- to de-compress it, it says it can't decompress the entire file,
- and when examined the .HQX file indeed appears to have the end
- missing.
-
- Is there anyone at Apple I can send a message to tell them
- about this? And also to suggest that they post it as a regular
- Binhex file, since it was compressed before being binhexed and
- re-compressing it doesn't save very much or make much sense. I
- realize they're making it available as a favor to the net, but fi
- they are going to do it they may as well do it right, right?
-
-
- Alternatively, does anyone know of another anonymous FTP site
- where I could obtain this version of the compiler for MacOS?
-
- Thanks.
