- There are certainly people reading this who know more about the subject than I
- do, but my understanding is that standard Mac formatting as performed by
- formatting software is equivalent to the so-called "low-level" format of the
- DOS world.

- I think what you are experiencing may be a SCSI problem. I had a similar
- problem with a Maxtor; after prolonged conversation with (very helpful) tech
- support, it was determined that the non-Mac SCSI drive had to have its SCSI ID
- set to zero to work on a Mac. (unfortunately I don't know for certain which
- jumper configuration this requires on your Seagate, but it's probably no
- jumper at all) If you've been hooking up the drive to a Mac with and internal
- drive, of course you will have to disconnect the internal in order to avoid a
- SCSI ID conflict.
