  10. A brief tutorial for a new mac owner, please:

  12. I am a proud papa of a bouncing baby performa 600CD, and have in
  13. anticipation been grabbing software from the net.  These files are
  14. typically in .hqx format.  I read that the program mcvert can run on
  15. my sun (and indeed, it does) to convert .hqx files to MacBinary
  16. format.  The man page reads mentions data and resource forks, and data
  17. and rsrc files.  Ok, here's the question:

  19. If I take my .hqx file(s) and convert to MacBinary and somehow manage
  20. to get these files to my mac, are they ready to go or do the
  21. MacBinary files require yet another round of translation to become
  22. executables?  And, what's the deal with the forks?  Just what is a
  23. fork, and what is it doing in my files...

  25. Here's what I observed when I ran mcvert on umoria (after all, I was
  26. raised on rogue, so moria seemed like a good first choice... :-)
