- Strange, i thought the LC and the LCII had almost the same performance
- (MacUser Benchmarks). After all, the LCII has only one advantage, the
- ability of using VM, which is (IMHO) not that interesting for a slow machine.
- Despite the fact it has a 68030 inside it, the Data bus is only 16 bits wide,
- so the CPU should be as fast (or as slow :-)) as a 68020, given they have
- the same instruction set (if i remember correctly, 68030 = 68020 + MMU + 32
- bits data bus, and the assembly manual i had about the 680x0 family didn't
- distinguish between the instruction sets). Could you please give the
- configuration of these machines ?.

- The '030 has a data cache (huge one, 256 bytes ;-) which the '020 lacks.
-
- I don't know why you added that last "+ 32", the '020 IS 32 bit. The
- '020 and '030 can be run on 8, 16 or 32 bit wide buses, there is no
- need for a different chip like the 386SX to run it on 16 bit buses.
- The bus width is determined on a cycle by cycle basis, very neat!
-
- The '30 = '020 + data cache + PMMU (stripped 68851) + synchronous
- burst mode bus - module abstraction (CALLM, RTM). I think the
- coprocessor interface was beefed up also so that CPU and coproc
- instructions can run concurrently. This is the main difference
- betweeen the 68881 and 68882 FPU:s.
-
- No doubt will I stand corrected if I'm wrong ;-)
