- I would imagine it's 64 bits just because of what IBM has learned from
- RS6000s. We have RS6000s with half a gig of RAM in them, and have hassles
- because the combination of AIX and the 32bit arch allow maximum size data
- structures of 256MB. We are not alone in having complained to IBM about
- this. It would only make sense to make the new chips 64bits, and to roll
- the improvements into forthcoming RS/6000s.
- Likewise I have seem people complaining to Apple about not being able to
- create files (massive databases) longer than one gig (or maybe four gig---I
- don't know quite how many bits of the 32 you have free as offsets into
- files.)
