- I was wondering if anyone of you netters had any
- experience with using a US made printer in Europe. I am
- mostly concerned by the voltage/frequency issue. Do I
- simply need a voltage converter ?
- The printer I am planning on buying, for someone
- living overseas, is Deskjet portable/Canon BJ200.
-
- Any info would be appreciated.
-
- On a different note ....
-
- I would like to thank all those who sent me messages
- about whether to buy the IISI at a competitive price.
- I must add I am very satisfied w/ the configuration
- I have. It is nothing fancy, IISI 5/40Internal/160External
- with a HP deskwriter and a 2400 baud modem. No accelerator,
- no crystal vibrating at 100Mhz, and no 5 feet color display
- w/ dolby surround sound !
- I have been following the discussion on several groups
- dealing with the mac. I encourage people to keep it alive as
- it is my main source for learning quite a few details regarding
- the mac and other machines. However, it is sometimes with utter
- disgust that I read many articles that relentelessly defend
- one machine over the otherS. I sincerely believe each individual
- has some peculiar computing needs that no single platform would
- satisfy at once. Some clearly assume we all are financially
- sound to the point of proposing the purchase of $4000 machines
- as a necessity.
- I used a macPlus for two years. I made sure I recovered
- every penny of the initial $700 I spent on it. I wonder if some
- can claim the same when they go on upgrading each time the
-
- department of marketing at Apple throws in a new refurbished/
- souped up/ or simply reboxed machine. I wonder what is considered
- to be a wise investment in today's market if every two quarters
- or so, the speed is doubled in the machines ?
- At Georgia Tech, all platforms are used; IBM, MAC, SUN,
- NEXT, dumb terminals, ... I think it is more a question of taste
- than of technology. Indeed, most of the users, unlike the ones
- on the net, do not know what is inside the 'box'. I would go as
- far as to say that the majority would not be able to name the
- chips running the machines, let alone their frequency !
- Furthermore, and correct me if am wrong, the overwhelming
- majority of users nowadays are completely lost in this ever
- growing and changing computer world.
- Before upgrading to the IISI, I tried a 386DX25Mhz w/ 8/120
- and SVGA color monitor. I became frustrated by the machine for many
- reasons, among which setting up the config.sys file, the drivers,
- the COM ports, ... After a while, ... %$#%*& When it ran, it ran
- smoothly, faster than a mac at a comparable price. However, the
- coup de Grace came when my advisor imposed Quadras 950s in the lab.
- Finally, for those who you who are hesitant, make use of that
- 30 days money back guaranteed. Try both machines and make your
- choice. All what you hear on the net is quite nice until you get
- to sign that check !...
