  14. My brother in the UK wants to buy a notebook or possibly a laptop.
  15. Requirements:

  17. 1) For multisite use, essentially as a portable desktop rather than on the
  18. move.
  19. 2) Mainly small to medium sized word processing (letters, research papers)
  20. Home sized spreadsheets, database of few thousand records * say 30 fields.
  21. Wants to run windows.

  23. The question is should he go for a big name or a "generic". How reliable are
  24. portable generics?
  25. How big a hard disc?
  26. How much memory?
  27. 386 or 486?

  29. I will be travelling to the UK via either USA or Asia. Is it worth buying a
  30. machine on the way (ie are they any cheaper than in the UK)?

  32. Can anyone recomend a comprehensive review of laptops/notebooks available in
  33. the UK? My brother says he can only find reviews dealing with a handful of
  34. brands.
