- Once upon a time IBM offered a BIOS upgrade but no longer does. There are
- 3rd party BIOS upgrades available; spend an hour with an issue of Computer
- Shopper.
-
- A better solution if you insist on sticking with an XT class machine is to
- pick up a new XT motherboard. It would cost well less than $50 to put an 8
- or 10MHz turbo XT motherboard with 640K into your case. Of course you would
- lose IBM's BASIC ROM (obtain a copy of GWBASIC if this is important) and
- the cassette port (you don't use this do you?). However, you will also gain
- built-in support for several devices like hard drives.
