- Posting for a friend who has been having trouble getting his new system
- to work as expected...
-
- Configuration:
-
- 486SX/25 motherboard with ETEQ chipset
- Orchid ProDesigner IIs (1Mb) SVGA adapter
-
- With this combination, the Orchid board indicates (and uses) only
- 256K of display memory when installed in a 16 bit slot in the 486.
- It operates correctly in this mode, but with only 1/4 of the installed
- display memory usable. When installed in an 8 bit slot on the MB,
- the board correctly indicates (and uses) 1024K of display memory. The
- same card works fine in a 286/12 motherboard in either 8 or 16 bit
- slots.
-
- When installed in the 486 motherboard, the card appears to the system
- to be a 16 bit card, but apparently the Orchid diagnostic programs
- indicate the board is operating in 8 bit mode.
-
- The original Orchid card had this and other problems and was replaced under
- warantee. The outfit he got the motherboard from issued him an RMA but
- went bust, apparently before doing anything with the motherboard. He felt
- lucky just to get it back!
-
- Suggestions appreciated...
