- True, the BIOS is not used by any UNIX's, but the fdisk fucntion done by
- UNIX's does create a partition table on the disk and it is here where
- the problems come in. If you are not using DOS on the disk, it doesn't
- matter if the partition table has more than 1024 cylinders written to
- it, but then again you wouldn't need the BIOS/firmware upgrade either.
- If DOS is on the same physical disk as UNIX, the partition table will
- get over-written by the UNIX fdisk with it's own parameters, which are
- usually hard-coded at 64/32 and this is where the problem is.
- The BIOS/firmware upgrade is only useful for DOS only systems where the
- disk is larger than 1GB (2^10).
