- I just stumbled over a parameter for ASPI4DOS.SYS, of which I don't know
- whether it helps in your case: /N (Bus ON Time). The Adaptec Manual says
- nothing about it except that it changes the Bus On Time anywhere between
- 2 and the default of 11 /us, and that some tape streamers need that for
- proper DMA operation. My new Colorado streamer requires /N2.
-
- Before installing the streamer I run with the default, i.e. /N11. No problems
- on my 486/50MHz with ATI Ultra (not Plus!), except that the hardware test
- feature of both Fastback Plus and CP Backup reported that they could not
- operate in high speed (that is 2 DMA channels simultaniously). And now they
- can...
-
- I've not yet a feeling whether this change influences any other disk
- operations, I got a couple of crashes in the mean time, but I fiddled a lot
- with different TSRs, so I can't yet trace it to this new parameter.
-
- Can anybody give a comment what's going on? What Bus On Time means? I seem
- to recall that it has to do with the timing of some AT Bus handshake lines,
- which are toggled upon address decoding by an addressed card. But then,
- why do the Adaptec and Streamer manual only refer to it in conjunction with
- DMA?
