  15. Can you explain the following phenomenon? ATI rep could not...

  17. I have a 486 DX2/66 with an ATI Ultra Pro LB. The motherboard supports
  18. shadowing the video BIOS and this feature is enabled. My config.sys
  19. file came configured with "DEVICE=C:\MACH32\RAMBIOS.SYS".
  20. The ATI manual says that you should install
  21. RAMBIOS.SYS in your config.sys file only if you DO NOT have shadowing,
  22. to get the same effect.

  24. Here is the catch: when I run a program "checkit" (I know it's not the
  25. best but it was on my HDD and I don't have anything else, see Puzzle
  26. #3), I get slower results without the RAMBIOS.SYS file (75% slower!!!)

  28. Questions:

  30. 1) Could it be that my shadowing option on the motherboard, even
  31. enabled, does not work? If yes how can I check that?
  32.  
  33. 2) Can there be something about the physical location of the copy of
  34. the VIDEO BIOS? Like shadowing is done above 640K and config.sys puts
  35. it below 640K?
  36.  
  37. 3) Could they be accessed differently (shadow copy versus rambios
  38. copy)?

  40. Any ideas/comments/sugestions appreciated.
