  10. There has been some concern on the net regarding ATI's support for OS/2 2.0
  11. with the 32bit GRE. Baring this, I emailed ATI directly at
  12. 74740.667@compuserve.com asking for a statement regarding their position on
  13. the OS/2 drivers. As you know they do support the 16 bit GRE, but do not have
  14. support as yet for the 32 bit GRE. Here is what I received:

  19. Welcome to the ATI Forum. This message will serve to update you on the
  20. current and future status of OS/2 drivers from ATI.
  21.  
  22. We opened this forum because we want to provide our customers with better
  23. support. A devoted ATI forum is new for us and we are in the process of
  24. developing internal systems that will allow us to respond quickly and
  25. accurately to the varying messages posted here.
  26.  
  27. On the issue of OS/2 2.0 drivers a few facts should be clarified;
  28.  
  29. 1.  Current OS/2 support.  ATI mach8 and mach32 accelerators currently
  30. support OS/2 1.2, 1.3 and 2.0. in the following modes:
  31.  
  32. * mach8 - 640x480 256 colors, 800x600 256 colors, 1024x768 256 colors
  33. * mach32 adds 1280x1024 256 colors
  34.  
  35. The current drivers are 16-bit, IBM released a beta 32-bit Graphics Engine
  36. (GRE) appx. 3 weeks ago. The full version 32-bit is still a couple of 
  37. months away.  The current GRE in OS/2 is 16 bit.  Development of 32 -bit
  38. ATI driver sets are now in progress using the beta GRE code and is slated
  39. for release by Q2 1993.  The features and modes supported by this driver
  40. are being finalized and your input as to the features you would like
  41. supported is requested.

  43. Technical issues as to installing or running current OS/2 drivers on ATI
  44. graphics boards should be specifically adressed to customer support. 
  45. Without accurate information we cannot help you with your problems.

  47. 2.  IBM 8514/A mode.  ATI mach8 (GRAPHICS ULTRA and VANTAGE) and mach32
  48. (GRAPHICS ULTRA PRO and +) provide 100% register level compatability with
  49. IBM's 8514/A standard.  ATI provided this support so that users will have
  50. the ability to use accelerated, high resolution modes out of the box. 
  51. This option exists for those who wish to use it.  ATI will provide
  52. advanced driver support in addition to this compatability.
  53.  
  54. ATI will continue to support OS/2 for it's new and older accelerators and
  55. will be posting updates as to release scheduals here on the forum.
