  12. I am thinking of buying a Windows accelerator and I would like to find
  13. out more about what is available. The ads always talk about the nice things
  14. and not the downsides. I read articles about accelerators I recently read 
  15. about Actix GraphicsEngine 32 in the January 1993 edition of BYTE. For its 
  16. price, it seems like a good deal. I am wondering whether anyone has experience
  17. with it. However, my real question is whether it (or any other accelerator 
  18. card )will make a big difference in a 386SX system with 8MB of RAM and a 236MB
  19. SCSI HD (11ms access time, w/ Adaptec 1542B). (I am not sure whether 
  20. GraphicsEngine 32 is a recent release or not.) I like the number of colors it 
  21. provides at high resolutions. As far as remember, other cards within the same
  22. price range do not provide as many colors as the GraphicsEngine 32. Its 1MB 
  23. version retails for $199 according to BYTE (maximum RAM 2 MB). I guess one 
  24. would need to get 2 MB to get 16.7 million colors at 640x480 resolution and
  25. 65,536 colors at 800x600 or 1024x768.
