- Hello,
-
- I am thinking of buying a Windows accelerator and I would like to find
- out more about what is available. The ads always talk about the nice things
- and not the downsides. I read articles about accelerators I recently read
- about Actix GraphicsEngine 32 in the January 1993 edition of BYTE. For its
- price, it seems like a good deal. I am wondering whether anyone has experience
- with it. However, my real question is whether it (or any other accelerator
- card )will make a big difference in a 386SX system with 8MB of RAM and a 236MB
- SCSI HD (11ms access time, w/ Adaptec 1542B). (I am not sure whether
- GraphicsEngine 32 is a recent release or not.) I like the number of colors it
- provides at high resolutions. As far as remember, other cards within the same
- price range do not provide as many colors as the GraphicsEngine 32. Its 1MB
- version retails for $199 according to BYTE (maximum RAM 2 MB). I guess one
- would need to get 2 MB to get 16.7 million colors at 640x480 resolution and
- 65,536 colors at 800x600 or 1024x768.
-
- I would appreaciate any advises or comments,
- Posting or email are both fine. Please respond as you like.

- Thank you,
