- I think all of the Gateway VL-Bus systems use Micronics motherboards.
- Anyway, it seems that these motherboards take some strange, non-standard
- type of RAM. Talking to a sales rep at Gateway, I found out that they want
- $165 (U.S. dollars) for each additional 4Meg of RAM. When I commented that
- that price seemed high, the salesperson told me that these motherboards
- do not accept SIMMs. She said they take "EISA memory" (whatever that is).
-
- I called back a second time to talk to somebody more knowledgable about
- this, but I was unlucky enough to get the same person (and the same story).
-
- Does anybody know what type of memory the Micronics VL-Bus motherboards accept?
- This news somewhat blew my plans to get one of these motherboards, since I
- was planning to use some of the SIMMs from my old motherboard. Not only can
- I not use my RAM, but I would have to pay $165/4Meg for new memory.
-
- Can anybody explain this? I'm sure this could affect the decisions of many
- others that are considering a Micronics VL-Bus motherboard.
-
- My apologies if this has been discussed before.
