-
- Right. I was the one who found it, and told Eric Vogel, who had asked
- me to look for any bugs that I could find in HP 82211B (beta version).

-
- That fixed the problem with the SmartROM, but not with potential
- future conflicts with HP's EQ card, hence the necessity for HP's
- bugfix.

-
- Fear not. No copies were pirated (at least, not by me or for me).
- I only "had" a copy to check for conflicts... and I found one! (As
- Eric told you).
-
- It'll be a sad day in the history of computing when they outlaw beta
- testing and require all bugs to be found by "registered users". And
- do not believe for a moment that beta testing can be successful if
- done totally "in house". (There is much between these lines; a word
- to the wise is sufficient).

-
- And there will probably be none. My report (quoted above) referred to
- an incident in the past, which actually happened. No inference was
- made or should be made about the performance of later versions of
- SmartROM. As we can all now see clearly, both HP and ForCALC took
- careful and intelligent steps to prevent such a conflict from
- happening again. We're grateful. But facts is facts, nonetheless.
