- Most of the classes that I've taken so far in Physics, Math, EE, and Computer
- science, have exams designed to be open book and notes. In physics and EE
- both of my instructors have owned an HP48s or sx, and allowed use of it and
- any other calculator. However before the test, they make it clear that you
- only get credit if you show your work. The calculator has helped me check my
- results, if I have time, and churning through calculations faster. In EE it
- has helped me visulizing some plots (we have to do them on the final). I had
- one series of computer science hardware classes where the instructor wouldn't
- allow any calculators of any kind (programmable or not) although the only
- thing you could use a calculator for was base 2 math on the test (programmable
- or not).
