  11. Hi all (again :-),

  13. We are installing a new 877 :-)  We are having several problems, four of
  14. which are possibly of generic interest.
  15.  
  16. 1)  No blank DDS tapes come with the system.  I couldn't even find a part
  17. number listed in TFM.  We get PC's with blank floppies.  Could not HP find
  18. it reasonable to ship a box of DDS tapes with the system?

  20. 2)  The OS is preinstalled.  Gee, that's helpful :-)  Of course, the
  21. installation does not do much good since the partitions used are useless (I
  22. suppose I should be thankful that it has partitions - not like the 700's;
  23. but as per previous discussions we want to be able to set the sizes
  24. ourselves :-) .  It comes with partitions in sections 0, 1, 3, 5, and 10
  25. (this is a 1.4G disk) and the helpful message that this can be changed with
  26. sam :-)  s0 is 23MB, s1 is 46MB, s3 is 28MB, s5 is /usr and s10 is / .  To
  27. make this into any reasonable IMHO configuration requires reloading the
  28. system.  It seems to me that making the whole thing / so it looked like a
  29. 700 would be better, at least better than this.

  31. 3)  Could someone please tell me where in TFM it describes how the console
  32. has been broken for emacs use?  (C-b [^B] has been usurped to get to the
  33. "console front end" [has an LSI-11 been added to start the CPU ?-], and C-v
  34. [^V] does something - perhaps it's a quote character?)  For that matter, is
  35. there something that describes the commands provided by the "console front
  36. end"?

  38. 4)  Now we have these new CD-ROM's with CODEWORD's (well, actually we don't
  39. yet, but that's a different story :-).  I understand the need for the
  40. password protection.  I do not understand why the passwords don't come with
  41. the CD-ROM.  Especially with a new system (knowing the OS will be
  42. reinstalled to get the partitions right :-) doesn't HP know the serial
  43. number of the system the CD will be used on????  Where they will be used on
  44. multiple systems, doesn't HP know at least one serial number??  Wouldn't
  45. there be a few more happy customers if these extra steps were removed?
