  12. rlpdaemon is unfortunately somewhat tricky to get set up the first
  13. time.

  15. i recommend running rlpdaemon from inetd.  we used to run it as a daemon
  16. but we are having better luck running it from inetd.

  18. when we ran rlpdaemon as a daemon, we found that we needed
  19. the fully-qualified domain name of the other hosts in /etc/hosts.equiv
  20. (never tried the ~lp/.rhosts approach), even though the other hosts
  21. were in the same domain.

  23. we've had no odd problems like that running rlpdaemon from inetd.
  24. just uncomment the line from /etc/inetd.conf, run "inetd -c", and 
  25. check the "printer allow" statement in /usr/adm/inetd.sec.

  27. you might try running rlpdaemon with the -l options, which will
  28. start a log file for remote requests in /usr/spool/lp/lpd.log.

  33. this message doesn't actually mean the remote host is down, it means
  34. that the printer service on the remote host is down or refusing
  35. to talk to that host.
