Sounds like maybe your head is pushed forward too far.. If you still have that little cardboard thing that came with you '41, stick it in and pull it out and try again.. If that doesn't help, or you don't have that cardboard thing, open the drive and manually (SLOWLY!) push the drive head to about the middle.  Then put in a disk, issue the "i" command, and try again...
