- unfortunately, that is false. if the gains are realized by the fund,
- they are passed on to you as taxable income and so reported to the irs
- for taxation.

- what you may mean is something that some subtle people have seen for
- many years. buy stocks which don't pay dividends, and don't sell
- them. that way the capital gains are not realized, and hence not
- taxed. also you don't pay taxes on the dividends which were not paid.

- if a company continues to reinvest, not showing dividends (and if it
- is careful, even not showing profits so it doesn't have to pay
- corporate taxes either) it functions like a tax-free capital
- appreciation device. the trick is to find such companies which do such
- appreciation and minimize corporate taxes through reinvestment.
