  17. USL is EXTREMELY important in the UNIX world as it is the only
  18. active major development center for UNIX source code.   Berkeley
  19. (UC Berkeley) was also active in this field, but they are in the
  20. process of shutting down.  USL supplies the source code base for
  21. most current versions of *IX.  Those that were based on the Berkeley
  22. code (which included a lot of USL code, BTW) are converting over to
  23. the USL code, for the most part.  Most obvious in that category is
  24. Sun.  CU (Univ. of Colorado, Boulder) would like to set up an alternative
  25. code development center, a la Berkeley's BSD, but they are still
  26. looking for $$$.

  28. I have one major request for Novell if this deal is finalized; drop
  29. the lawsuits against Berkeley and BSDI!
