- A quick note regarding 3B2 serial cables: These are 8 wire cables with
- RJ-45 connectors on each end. There is a "flip" in the cable, so that the
- pin order is reversed from one end to the other. (Pin1 to Pin8) This is
- DIFFERENT from Starlan1 and Starlan10 (10baseT) cables as well as most
- RJ-45 telephone cables. Be warned! :-)
-
- For the computer end:
- Jack orientation, putting it down "face down" so the locking prong is on
- top, and the cable comes out the back so that you are facing the "head" of
- the connector Pin1 is the first place on your right. If you have factory
- cables, Pin1 is the place where the frame ground strap connects.
-
- For the console, contty and PORTS board the pinouts are as follows:
-
- Pin Signal 25 pin DTE 25 pin DCE
- 1 Frame GND 1 1
- 2 Reserved Nothing
- 3 TD (out) 3 (RD in) 2 TD (in)
- 4 DTR (out) 8 (DCD) 20 (DTR)
- 5 RXD (in) 2 TD (out) 3 RD (out)
- 6 DCD (in) 6 & 20 8 (DCD)
- 7 Sig gnd 7 7
- 8 Reserved Nothing
-
- For an EPORTS board things are the same except for the addition of:
-
- 2 CTS 4 (RTS) 5 (CTS)
- 8 RTS 5 (CTS) 4 (RTS)
-
- And the eports supports "hardware flow control" as well as much higher
- speeds.
