- grr... ICD made a big mistake w/ their RAMBo XL...
-
- I got "VBLITZ" from the archives, and loaded it on my upgraded (256k,
- 800xl/800 OS) 1200xl and all it did was say "[fuji sign] 130XE"...
-
- then I loaded it up on the motherboard (no keys/case/etc) of my old
- 1200xl (w/1200xl OS and 48k) and it showed two VERY cool looking
- landscape frames behind the fuji & "130xe"....
-
-
- what the problem is... is that the RAMbo XL, when bank-selecting, selects
- the bank for all of the memory, while the 130XE's memory, when
- bank-selecting, selects memory for the CPU to look at, AS WELL AS memory
- for the video (ANTIC chip) to look at... so, when VBlitz thought it was
- telling an XE to have only ANTIC look at such&such a bank of memory, my
- RAMBo thought it was saying "look at this bank of memory" (taking the bit
- that would tell the XE "ANTIC only" as another bit in the bank # (as the
- rambo upgrades have more memory (16 banks) than the 130xe (4 banks)))...
-
-
- I hope I'm not too confusing.. I'm just relaying what I took from what
- Bob Woolley told me...
-
-
-
- anyways... I made two little programs in TurboBASIC XL (VSPLIT.TBS and
- VBLITZ.TBS) which do almost what that demo is supposed to do:
-
- VSPLIT- opens the AUTORUN file from the VBLITZ disk (which contains the
- bitmap frames) and resaves the images onto the ramdisk
-
- VBLITZ- consecutively reads the seperate images that VSPLIT made and dis-
- plays them on the screen..
-
-
- inotherwords, I got the demo working, but very slowly, and w/o that
- snazzy fuji and "130XE" on the screen (which MUST'Ve been player-missles
- (not sprites, bob.. I remembered not to say "sprites"! ;) ), because
- they were changing rainbow colors as the background moved (if I were to
- see it), and the background was in GTIA 16-shade 80x192 mode, while the
- 130XE and fuji were in totally multicolored 160 x 192...)
-
-
-
- whew...
- I'm tired ;)
