- I have a bunch of questions about the net that are so basic that they are
- not covered in the FAQ.
-
- As most of you know, I write inCider/A+'s Grapevine column. If you're not
- familiar with it, it's about telecommunications. Even though I've been
- hanging out here in c.s.a2 for a year, I consider myself a net novice, and
- there's a lot I just don't understand. Just a few weeks ago, I finally got
- brave enough to FTP for the first time. I was stunned at how fast a file
- flew from cco.caltech.edu to my host machine.
-
- As little as I understand about the net and how it works, a lot of
- inCider/A+ readers understand a less about it than I do. I'd like to be
- able to provide information in my column to get even more Apple II folks
- involved with c.s.a2.
-
- I access c.s.a2 from The Well, a commercial network. Obviously, I know how
- to read newsgroups and respond to postings, as it really only takes a few
- commands. I use !rn to read newsgroups I've subscribed to, f to respond
- without quotes, F to respond with quotes, r to respond via email and
- !postnews to start a new topic. I mention that because I don't really know
- if those are across-the-net commands, or just the ones on my local host.
-
- I've recently been getting lots of email from college students who have
- the ability to send me Internet mail, and they are asking me how to access
- c.s.a2. And, in all honesty, I'm not sure what to tell them.
-
- So, I'd really appreciate it if someone, or a few people, who access the
- net via their school computer, or via their work computer, could tell me
- how they access the net. I know that must sound silly, but the next time
- someone writes to me and asks me how to access c.s.a2 and c.b.a2 and FTP
- that I'll know what to tell them.
-
- Thanks!
