  12. Hi, I am currently considering adding a removable mass-storage device
  13. to the my GS, and I am debating between the Syquest-45 removable
  14. HD vs. the new 21 meg floptical HDs.  And I like to hear from those
  15. of who who has experience with either or both devices.

  17. I am leaning towards the floptical drives because of the ability to
  18. read Mac and IBM (with the new FST with 6.01) 1.44 High density 3.5s,
  19. and from the ads from the current MacUsers, the flopticals can be had
  20. for around $359, which is less than the cheapest Syquests (around $399.)
  21. The price differnce isn't really an issue, since it's only around $50.
  22. But the storage is only 21 megs (probably less, since formatting takes
  23. up some space, I don't know how much), as compared to the 45 meg
  24. syquests (which is around 41-43 of usable space.)  Since I do plan on
  25. using the removable as a backup device, as well as a primary storage
  26. on the GS, the size of the media is an issue.

  28. I have the Rev. C Apple SCSI card (the really slow, non DMA variety),
  29. and the RamFAST SCSI card rev. B board, with ROM 3.00(something), I
  30. will probably need to upgrade the roms again to work with the
  31. flopticals.

  33. Any comments?  Thanks in advance.  (Todd probably have a ton to say,
  34. which I am sure he is getting tired of saying everytime someone
  35. is considering the floptical drives :-)  Shouldn't/isn't this stuff
  36. in the faq?)
